Fall Stovetop Potpourri Recipe

Do you ever smell something and it takes you back to a moment in the past? For me, this fall stovetop potpourri recipe takes me right back to the fall season when I was a kid. The minute my mom started making her stovetop potpourri, we knew that the season was starting to change. It's such a simple thing, but every year in the fall, I can't wait to make my house smell festive.

Being a mom of two now, I want my kids to have that same feeling I had when I was growing up. I want them to be excited for all of the fun holidays coming up, and I want this time of the year to be special for them. I made this fall potpourri recipe yesterday for the first time this year, and they were already so excited. They sat and told me about how they couldn't wait to go to the pumpkin patch and how they were going to carve their pumpkins this year.

Making this fall stovetop potpourri seems like such a small, insignificant thing, but I can honestly say that every year when it's time to get ready for fall, you can feel the excitement for things to come in our household (my husband loves it too of course). The best news? It's so easy to make, and it's from fresh ingredients, so you won't have any fake fragrance headaches. Ready to give it a try? See the fall potpourri stovetop recipe below!

Fall Potpourri DIY

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup whole cloves
  • 3 bay leaves
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 3 orange slices
  • 2 lemon slices

Directions

  1. Fill a large saucepot about 2/3 up with water.
  2. Add cloves, bay leaves, cinnamon sticks, orange and lemon slices to the pot.
  3. Turn stove to the low setting and let simmer.
  4. Enjoy how wonderful your house smells!

Side note: Please set a reminder or timer to turn the stove off after an hour or two. The water will evaporate and you don't want the ingredients to burn the bottom of your pan!
